Intro: A combination of sweet, spicy and tangy flavours, salsa is loved by all. Whether used as a dip, spread or sauce, it can elevate a simple snack into something delightful. Here’s how you can make your own easy version at home.

Whether its chips or finger foods, salsa makes the perfect accompaniment for a variety of appetisers and snacks. High on taste and low on calories, this sauce is extremely versatile. While it’s commonly enjoyed with nachos or tortilla chips, it also pairs well with fried finger foods such as French fries, potato wedges, chicken nuggets or cheese balls. It can be served as part of a mezze platter along with hummus and a hung curd dip. Typically a mezze platter would include grilled vegetables like eggplant, zucchini and bell peppers along with grilled meats. Add some olives and pickles on the side. Serve the platter with the dips in the centre. You can make the platter more elaborate by adding mozzarella and feta cheese, if you please.

If you’re pressed for time and want to create a quick snack, use it as a spread in a sandwich. Add vegetables of your choice along with a serving of cheese and Voila! Your snack is ready! You can also create a quick appetiser like bruschetta. Simply cut bread into small pieces and toast. Once done, rub some olive oil over it followed by garlic paste. Then, add the salsa and garnish with fresh basil. You can also add some grated cheese over it before serving.

Apart from being low calorie, freshly made salsa sauce also has a whole lot of health benefits. Its primary ingredient, tomato is a rich source of vitamin C. Tomatoes contain vitamins and minerals like vitamin B6, folate, niacin, vitamin E,  copper, potassium, manganese that provide nutrition to the body. They are also known to reduce the risk of heart disease, boost the immune system and enhance skin and hair health. The salsa also contains lemon which is known to be a source of vitamins C, B6, A and E and calcium. Lemon is instrumental in helping the body detox, thus aiding digestion. Additionally, it gives the body an instant boost of energy. Its other ingredients like garlic and olive oil also provide multiple health benefits to the body. Garlic is known to be rich in antioxidants, while olive oil is rich in Vitamin E. With so many benefits and a melange of enticing flavours, we suggest you whip up your own version of the dip at home.
